The area provides many opportunities for year-round
activities. The Youghiogheny River provides some of the best
whitewater boating in the Eastern U. S. as well as spectacular scenery.
The Confluence area offers many excellent fishing opportunities.
Streams stocked with rainbow, brown and brook trout include Laurel Hill
Creek, Whites Creek, McClintock Run and the Youghiogheny River.
Passing through Confluence is the 334 mile Great Allegheny Passage
bike
trail which in 2006 will be part of a continuous non-motorized corridor
from near Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. There are many miles of
hiking
trails in the area. Ohiopyle State Park has 79 miles of trails.
There is also the Laurel Highlands Trail which is 70 miles long and
extends from Ohiopyle to Johnstown. The area has four ski resorts and
many areas for cross-country skiing and other winter activities.
